* about us *
Daron Powers
Daron founded Skye Island Drive, (the band's original name),
plays Bass guitar and sings; that is when he's not playing the six
string guitar, keyboard or drums. Multi-instrumentalist Powers is
a composer, an author, a professional sales and motivational
speaker and has been playing and writing music since
childhood. Daron and Mike Talley collaborated on the
composition of several of the smooth jazz originals performed by
The Skye Island Band. Daron Powers' new book "Sales in a
Challenging Real Estate Market" has just been released
(www.daronpowers.com).

Michael Talley
On keyboards and Vocals: "I hear music everywhere, in everything and
love to create music." And Mike effortlessly creates, composes,
performs music with such genius and heart, it's astonishing. (One of
his band mates is writing this -- Mike's blushing). Talley was 1982's
Metro Times award winning R&B keyboardist with The Platinum Riders
and has performed with Martha Reeves, Earl Klugh, Dennis Coffey,
Eddie Money and Stevie Wonder. Mike's profession is television / video
director for the City of Southfield. He recently completed an independent
project resulting in Arturo Sandoval's recent DVD release.
Jack Kartush
Skye's lead guitarist; every now and then Jack gets up before
noon and does something with his day. Beyond his guitar
virtuosity (he's been playing since the age of 12 and was
awarded Metro Time's 'Best R&B guitarist in 1982 while in
the award winning Platinum Riders), Jack Kartush, MD is a
composer, a medical device inventor, has published a
library's worth of medical articles, he's a clinical professor
and a well respected ear surgeon; not to mention medical
director of Providence Hospital and president of The
Michigan Ear Institute. One of these days, we know Jack will
amount to something.
Joe Gaglio
Joe's on percussion and is always up for making music. Never
known Joe to turn down a chance to play. Gaglio (pronounced
'gal-e-o' for those of us unfamiliar with Italian surnames), is as
versatile as is The Skye Island Band -- effortlessly moving from
Jazz to Rock to Blues, Reggae to Latin rhythms. Not surprising
considering "My first drum sticks were made from the dry
cleaning hangers my father brought home. I made my own
drums out of different size boxes and a great sounding sofa."
Mark Burnett
On lead vocals and guitar, Mark's been a member of the Detroit area
music community since high school (note the picture is purposely
small to minimize the graying temples). Early bands included The
Grupe, The Fourth Dimension (before there was a Fifth Dimension),
the Constellations and the gracefully named Meat Market. Also a
founding member of the renown BluesMatics Band of the 1980's
(famous in their own minds anyway), Mark , AKA "Dee-troit Mark"
joined "Skye Island Drive" as it was called back then in 2003 or 2004
-- somewhere in there. To keep soup on the table, Burnett runs
Burnett Direct, Inc., a database marketing and data consultancy.
